Comprehensive initiatives designed to empower deaf individuals at every stage of life
At New Hope for the Deaf, we've developed a range of programs to address the diverse needs of the deaf community in Uganda. From early education to vocational training and community awareness, our initiatives work together to create lasting change.
Each program is designed with input from the deaf community to ensure we're meeting real needs and creating sustainable solutions.
We sponsor deaf children to attend primary schools that can accommodate their needs, providing tuition, uniforms, books, and other necessities.
Our goal is to ensure no deaf child is left behind due to financial constraints or lack of access to appropriate education.
We continue supporting deaf students through secondary education, helping them transition to higher levels of learning with appropriate accommodations.
This includes sign language interpreters, specialized tutoring, and career guidance.
We provide Ugandan Sign Language (USL) instruction to deaf children and their families ensuring they can communicate effectively .
This program also trains teachers and community members in basic sign language.
Our comprehensive tailoring program teaches students to create beautiful garments and accessories, with a focus on kitenge fabrics.
Graduates receive starter kits to begin their own businesses.
Students learn furniture making, cabinetry, and other woodworking skills that lead to sustainable livelihoods.
The program emphasizes both traditional techniques and modern tools.
This program teaches sustainable farming techniques, animal husbandry, and agribusiness skills suited to Uganda's climate and economy.
Participants receive seeds and seedlings to start their own gardens.
We provide specialized training and support for deaf young mothers, including childcare, nutrition, and income-generating skills.
The program also offers counseling and health education.
Deaf women create beautiful kitenge products that are sold locally and internationally, with all profits supporting our programs.
Participants earn fair wages and gain valuable business skills.
We conduct workshops on sexual reproductive health, family planning, and general wellness tailored for deaf women.
These sessions are conducted in sign language by trained facilitators.
We offer basic sign language training to community members, businesses, and service providers to create more inclusive environments.
The program helps break down communication barriers in daily life.
Our awareness programs educate communities about deaf culture, rights, and capabilities to reduce stigma and discrimination.
We work with schools, businesses, and government agencies.
We provide vocational graduates with starter kits containing essential tools and materials to launch their businesses.
Kits are tailored to each trade (tailoring, carpentry, agriculture, etc.).
